In the small, windswept village of Grange Farm, there lived a man named Thomas. Thomas had always been known as a strong and capable man, someone others turned to in times of trouble. But one fateful year, a series of storms swept through the village, destroying Thomas’ farm, his livelihood, and the home his family had cherished for generations.

With his crops ruined and his savings depleted, Thomas felt like he had lost everything. He began to isolate himself, believing there was no hope for the future. One evening, as he sat alone in the ruins of his barn, he opened a Bible that his grandmother had given him as a child. His fingers trembled as he turned the pages, and his eyes fell on Obadiah 1:17:

“But on Mount Zion will be deliverance; it will be holy, and Jacob will possess his inheritance.”

The words stirred something deep within Thomas. He had felt abandoned by God, but this verse reminded him that God is a deliverer, a refuge in times of trouble. Slowly, he began to pray:

“Lord, I feel so lost and broken. But I believe that You are my refuge and deliverer. Please restore what has been taken from me and fill my heart with hope. Help me to trust in Your promises and to find peace, even in this season of loss.”

The next morning, Thomas woke up with a small glimmer of hope. He decided to take a walk through the village, something he hadn’t done in weeks. As he passed by the church in Singleton Drive, Grange Farm, he heard the faint sound of music and felt a pull to step inside.

The lady pastor was giving a sermon on God’s faithfulness, reminding the congregation that even in the darkest seasons, God is our refuge and deliverer. Thomas listened closely as the lady pastor read Psalm 34:17:

“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles.”

Thomas felt tears well up in his eyes. For the first time in months, he felt a sense of peace. He realized that even though his circumstances had not yet changed, God was with him, offering refuge and hope.

Encouraged by the message, Thomas began to rebuild, not just his farm, but his faith. He reached out to his neighbours, who rallied around him, offering help and resources to repair his home and replant his fields.

As the weeks turned into months, Thomas began to see the fruit of his labour. His crops started to grow again and his farm slowly came back to life. But more importantly, he felt a renewed sense of purpose and hope.

One day, as he stood in his field, watching the golden wheat sway in the breeze, Thomas whispered, “Lord, You are my deliverer. Thank You for restoring what was broken and for filling my life with hope. I trust in Your promises, and I give You all the glory.”

Years later, Thomas often shared his story with others who were going through difficult times. He would remind them of the promises in Obadiah 1:17 and Psalm 34:17, encouraging them to find refuge in the Lord and to trust in His ability to restore and deliver.

“God doesn’t just help us survive the storms,” Thomas would say. “He restores what is lost and gives us victory, even in the hardest seasons. When we trust in Him, we find peace that surpasses all understanding and hope that never fades.”

May you, like Thomas, find refuge in the Lord, for He is your deliverer. May His restoration fill your life with hope, reminding you that no loss is too great for Him to redeem. May His promises bring you peace, and may His faithfulness lead you to victory in every season of life.

“The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You.” Psalm 9:9-10

Heavenly Father I lift up the reader to You today, Lord, You are their refuge and deliverer. They come to You with all that is broken in their life, trusting in Your power to restore. Fill their heart with peace and hope, even in the midst of trials. Help them to hold on to Your promises and to walk in the victory You have already prepared for them.
