In the bustling city of Milton Keynes, there lived a young woman named Adwoa. She was determined, hardworking, and full of dreams, but life seemed to throw her challenge after challenge. At just 25 years old, Adwoa was juggling a demanding career, caring for her aging mother, and trying to figure out what direction her life was supposed to take. She often found herself overwhelmed, unsure of what decisions to make, and afraid of making the wrong choices.
One evening, after a particularly exhausting day, Adwoa sat by her window, staring at the city lights and feeling the weight of her responsibilities pressing down on her. In her heart, she whispered a question she had asked so many times before: “What am I supposed to do, Lord? I feel so lost.”
Her Bible sat nearby, and as she opened it, her eyes fell on James 1:5:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
The verse felt like an answer to her unspoken prayer. Adwoa read it again, this time aloud: “Ask God for wisdom, and He will give it generously…” She closed her eyes and prayed, “Lord, I need Your wisdom. I can’t do this on my own. Please guide me, show me the way, and help me face these challenges with grace and strength.”
The next day, Adwoa began taking small steps to seek God’s guidance in her daily life. Before making decisions, she paused to pray, asking for clarity and discernment. She sought counsel from mentors at her church in 24 Singleton Drive in Grange Farm, MK8, read Scripture more intentionally, and journaled her thoughts and prayers.
At first, the answers didn’t come quickly. But as weeks turned into months, Adwoa began to notice a change. She didn’t always know exactly what to do, but she felt a growing sense of peace and confidence in her choices. When challenges arose, she approached them with a calm strength she hadn’t known before.
One of Adwoa’s biggest struggles was deciding whether to take a promotion at work. On the surface, it seemed like a great opportunity, higher pay, more recognition, but it would also mean longer hours, less time with her family, and more stress. As she prayed for wisdom, she felt a gentle tug in her heart, reminding her of her priorities. After seeking advice and reflecting deeply, Adwoa made the difficult decision to turn down the promotion.
At first, she worried she had made the wrong choice, but in the weeks that followed, she saw how God honoured her decision. She had more time to care for her mother, her relationships grew stronger, and she even discovered new opportunities at work that aligned better with her long-term goals.
One evening, as Adwoa reflected on her journey, she realised how far she had come. The uncertainty and fear that once consumed her were now replaced with a quiet confidence rooted in God’s guidance. She shared her story with her small group, encouraging them with the promise of James 1:5:
“I used to think I had to figure everything out on my own,” she said. “But God’s wisdom isn’t something we have to earn or deserve. It’s a gift He gives generously when we ask. I’ve learned that when we seek His guidance, He not only shows us the way but gives us the strength and grace to walk it.”
Adwoa’s life became a testimony to the power of wisdom and discernment. Her co-workers often came to her for advice, inspired by her calm and thoughtful approach to challenges. Her family saw her as a source of strength and encouragement, and her friends admired her unwavering faith.
Years later, Adwoa would look back on that season of her life with gratitude, not because it was easy, but because it taught her to rely on God in a deeper way. She had learned that wisdom wasn’t just about making the “right” decisions, it was about trusting God to lead, even when the path wasn’t clear.
And so, Adwoa’s story reminds us of the truth of James 1:5: that God’s wisdom is always available to us, no matter how lost or overwhelmed we may feel. When we seek Him with humble hearts, He equips us with the discernment to navigate life’s challenges and the grace and strength to overcome them.
May we, like Adwoa, seek God’s wisdom in all things, trusting that He will guide us, sustain us, and bless us with the clarity and courage we need to walk the path He has prepared for us.
Heavenly Father, I commit the reader before You today, seeking Your wisdom and discernment. Life is filled with challenges that often feel overwhelming, but we know that with Your guidance, we can navigate them with grace and strength. As Your Word says in James 1:5, “If any of us lacks wisdom, let us ask of You, who gives generously to all without finding fault and it will be given to us.” Lord, we ask for that wisdom now. Help us to see the path You have laid out for us, even when it seems unclear. Grant us the courage to make wise decisions and the compassion to extend grace to others. May we find peace in Your presence and strength in Your love. Thank You for being our constant source of wisdom and hope. In Jesus Name, we pray,
