In the small village of Simpsons, Milton Keynes, there lived a farmer named Thomas. Thomas was a humble man, known for his hard work and quiet demeanor. He had spent his entire life tending the fields that his family had worked for generations. But despite his labour, Thomas often felt a deep restlessness in his soul.
He longed for peace, a peace that no amount of effort, success, or routine could bring. Life on the farm was full of challenges: unpredictable weather, failing crops, and the heavy weight of responsibility. Though he believed in God, Thomas couldn’t help but wonder if he was truly seen, truly known, and truly loved by his Creator.
One evening, after a particularly exhausting day, Thomas sat on the porch of his farmhouse, staring out at the fields bathed in the golden light of the setting sun. As he sat in silence, the words of a familiar blessing came to his mind, words he had heard countless times from his lady pastor in church at 24 Singleton Drive in Grange Farm, but never fully considered:
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26
Thomas whispered the words aloud, his voice barely audible over the rustling of the wind. He closed his eyes and prayed, “Lord, I’ve recited these words so many times, but I’ve never truly felt their meaning. Please, shine Your face upon me. Bless me with Your grace and peace. Show me that You are here, that You see me, and that I am held in Your love.”
The days that followed were ordinary in many ways. The crops still needed tending, the animals still needed care, and the demands of the farm didn’t lessen. But something inside Thomas began to shift. When he woke each morning, he started his day with the blessing of Numbers 6:24-26, praying it over himself and his family. He began to notice the beauty in small things: the warmth of the sun on his skin, the laughter of children playing in the distance, the gentle rhythm of the rain nourishing his fields.
One afternoon, as Thomas was repairing a broken fence, a neighbour named Matthew stopped by. Matthew was going through a difficult season, having recently lost his wife. He looked weary, his eyes heavy with grief. Without hesitation, Thomas invited him to sit down and share his burdens.
As Matthew poured out his heart, Thomas quietly prayed, asking God to give him the words to bring comfort. When Matthew finished speaking, Thomas shared the blessing from Numbers 6:24-26:
“Matthew,” he said gently, “I don’t have all the answers, but I do know this: The Lord sees you. He is with you. May He bless you and keep you, shining His face upon you with grace and peace.”
Tears filled Matthew’s eyes as he nodded. “Thank you, Thomas,” he said. “Those words are exactly what I needed to hear.”
From that day forward, Thomas made it his mission to share the blessing of Numbers 6:24-26 with everyone he encountered. He spoke it over his children before they left for school, over his crops as he worked the fields, and over his neighbours when they came to him with their struggles.
The more Thomas shared the blessing, the more he felt its truth in his own life. He came to understand that God’s face was always shining upon him, even in the hardest moments. The peace he had longed for wasn’t something he had to chase, it was already his, a gift from the God who had promised to bless and keep him.
Years later, as Thomas stood in the same fields he had worked for decades, now surrounded by his grown children and grandchildren, he reflected on the journey that had brought him to that moment. Though life had not been without its trials, he had found joy, grace, and peace in the presence of the Lord.
He gathered his family around him and spoke the blessing once more:
“May the Lord bless you and keep you; may He make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; may He turn His face toward you and give you peace.”
And as he spoke, the words were no longer just a recitation, they were a living testimony of God’s faithfulness, a reminder that His blessings are abundant, His grace is unending, and His peace is everlasting.
Thomas’s life became a reflection of the blessing he shared, a reminder to everyone around him that when we rest in God’s presence, we are truly kept, truly loved, and truly at peace.
And so, may we, like Thomas, live in the light of this blessing, carrying it in our hearts and sharing it with others, trusting that the Lord’s face is always shining upon us with His grace and peace.
Heavenly Father, I lift up the reader to You today, knowing that You see them, You know them, and You love them deeply. Whatever challenges they are facing, be it exhaustion, uncertainty, or the weight of life’s burdens, may Your Word be a comfort and a light to their path. I pray Numbers 6:24-26 over them now:
May the Lord bless them and keep them.
May You make Your face shine upon them and be gracious to them.
May You turn Your face toward them and give them peace.
Father, remind them that Your blessings are not earned but freely given. Let them feel the warmth of Your presence and the assurance that You are walking with them through every trial. Restore their strength, renew their hope and fill their hearts with Your unshakable peace. In Jesus Name, Amen.
