In a small, tight-knit community nestled in a valley, there lived a woman named Fatima Dawson. Fatima was a nurse in her mid-30s, known for her compassion and dedication to her patients. She worked long hours at the local clinic, often putting others’ needs before her own. Despite her tireless efforts, Fatima struggled with chronic fatigue and a sense of emptiness. She felt like she was pouring from an empty cup, and her health was beginning to suffer.

Fatima’s best friend, Lisa Miles, was a vibrant young beautiful lady with a deep faith. Lisa often encouraged Fatima to take time for herself and to reconnect with God. “You can’t keep giving without filling your own spirit,” Lisa would say. But Fatima always brushed it off. “I’m fine,” she’d reply. “I just need to push through.”

One evening, after a particularly grueling shift, Fatima collapsed at home. She was rushed to the hospital, where the doctors diagnosed her with severe exhaustion and stress-related illness. As she lay in the hospital bed, Fatima felt a wave of despair. “I’ve spent my life helping others,” she whispered. “Why is this happening to me?”

Lisa visited her the next day, bringing a Bible with her. She opened it to Exodus 23:25 and read aloud: “So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of you.”  Fatima listened, tears streaming down her face. “I’ve been serving everyone but God,” she admitted. “I’ve lost sight of why I do what I do.”

Lisa took Fatima’s hand. “It’s not too late to start again. Let’s pray together.”

From that day forward, Fatima began to prioritize her relationship with God. She started each morning with prayer and Bible study, asking God to guide her and fill her with His strength. She also began to set boundaries at work, learning to say no when necessary and to take time for rest and self-care.

As Fatima’s spiritual life deepened, she noticed a change in her physical health. Her energy levels improved, and her sense of purpose returned. She also began to see her work as a form of worship, serving her patients not out of obligation but out of love for God.

One day, Fatima received a surprise visit from a former patient, a young boy named Ethan whom she had cared for during a serious illness. Ethan was now healthy and full of life, and he handed Fatima a handmade card that read, “Thank you for being God’s hands and feet.”  Fatima felt a surge of gratitude and joy. She realised that her service, when rooted in her relationship with God, had a ripple effect that touched lives in ways she couldn’t see.

Fatima’s journey became an inspiration to her colleagues and community. She often shared her story, reminding others that true service begins with worship and that God’s blessings flow when we put Him first.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise to bless and protect those who serve You. Help us to prioritise our relationship with You, trusting that You will provide for our needs and bring healing to every area of our lives. Teach us to serve others not out of obligation but out of love for You. May our lives be a testament to Your faithfulness and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

When we serve the Lord with all our heart, He blesses our lives, provides for our needs, and brings healing and wholeness. True service begins with worship and flows from a heart filled with His love.
