In a small, close-knit town, there lived a woman named Pat. She had always been a pillar of strength in her community, known for her kindness and unwavering faith. But one year, her life was turned upside down. Her husband passed away unexpectedly, and shortly after, she lost her job. The weight of grief and uncertainty felt overwhelming.
Pat sat alone in her quiet home, staring at the empty chair where her husband used to sit. “God, where are You?” she whispered, tears streaming down her face. “I don’t know how to keep going.”
One morning, as Pat sat by the window, she opened her Bible to Lamentations 3:22-23: “Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
The words felt like a lifeline. Pat realised that even in her darkest moments, God’s love and faithfulness were constant. “His mercies are new every morning,” she repeated to herself. “I can trust Him, even when I don’t understand.”
Pat decided to take a step of faith. She began each day by reading a Scripture and writing down one thing she was grateful for. At first, it was hard to find anything to be thankful for, but as she persisted, her heart began to change.
She also started volunteering at a local shelter, serving meals to those in need. “If I can’t fix my own life,” she thought, “maybe I can help someone else.”
One day, as Pat was serving at the shelter, a young woman approached her. “Thank you for your kindness,” she said. “You’ve reminded me that there’s still good in the world.”
Pat felt a spark of hope. “Thank You, Lord,” she whispered. “For using me to bring light to someone else’s darkness.”
Over time, Pat’s grief began to heal. She found a new job, and though life wasn’t the same, she felt a sense of peace she hadn’t known in years.
Years later, Pat’s home had become a place of warmth and hospitality. She often hosted gatherings for her neighbours, sharing her story and encouraging others to trust in God’s faithfulness.
One evening, as she prepared for a gathering, Pat opened her Bible to Lamentations 3:22-23 and read aloud: “Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
“Thank You, Lord,” she whispered. “For Your unfailing love, Your endless mercies, and Your faithfulness that has carried me through.”
God’s love and faithfulness are constant, even in our darkest moments. When we trust in His promises, His mercies renew us each day, and His love sustains us through every trial. As Lamentations 3:22 reminds us, His compassions never fail.
“Heavenly Father, I come to You today, grateful for Your unfailing love and faithfulness. When life feels overwhelming, remind me that Your mercies are new every morning. Help me to trust in Your promises and to find strength in Your love. Thank You for being a God who never fails me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
