In the quiet town of Grange Farm, there lived a young woman named Lily. Lily was kindhearted and hardworking, but she often struggled with feelings of loneliness and insecurity. No matter how many friends she surrounded herself with or how many achievements she earned, there was a part of her that felt empty, as though something was missing.

One evening, after a particularly difficult day, Lily sat by her window and opened her Bible. Her eyes landed on John 15:15:

“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”

The words stopped her in her tracks. “A friend of Christ?” she whispered to herself. “Jesus calls me His friend?”

The thought overwhelmed her. She had always thought of herself as someone who needed to work hard to earn God’s love, but this verse reminded her that Jesus had chosen her, not as a servant, but as a beloved friend.

That night, Lily prayed earnestly, “Lord, thank You for calling me Your friend. Help me to live in the confidence of that truth. Let Your love guide my steps and fill my life with joy and purpose, knowing that I am never alone.”

The next morning, Lily woke up with a renewed sense of peace. She began to see her life differently, not as a list of tasks to accomplish or roles to fulfill, but as an opportunity to walk closely with her Saviour.

At work, when a coworker snapped at her, Lily took a deep breath and remembered Jesus’ words: “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12). Instead of responding in frustration, she chose to respond with kindness, knowing that Jesus’ love was guiding her steps.

When she felt overwhelmed by her responsibilities, she reminded herself, “I don’t carry these burdens alone. My friend Jesus is with me, and His strength is enough.”

Slowly but surely, Lily’s perspective began to shift. She no longer felt the need to prove herself to others or to God. Instead, she found joy in simply being His friend, someone who was deeply loved, fully known, and lovingly guided by Him.

One day, as Lily was having lunch with her friend Emily, she noticed that Emily seemed unusually quiet. “Is everything okay?” Lily asked gently.

Emily hesitated before saying, “I’ve been feeling so lost lately. It’s like I’m just going through the motions, but nothing feels meaningful anymore.”

Lily reached across the table and took Emily’s hand. “I know how you feel,” she said. “I used to feel the same way, but then I realized something that changed everything: Jesus calls us His friends. He doesn’t just love us, He wants a relationship with us. Knowing that has filled my life with purpose and joy, even on the hardest days.”

Emily’s eyes filled with tears. “I’ve never thought about it like that,” she said.

Lily smiled and said, “He’s inviting you to walk with Him too. You don’t have to do life on your own, He’s right there, ready to guide you, love you, and fill your heart with peace.”

As Lily continued to live in the confidence of being called a friend of Christ, her life became a testimony to those around her. Her co-workers noticed the kindness and patience in her actions. Her friends were inspired by the peace and joy she radiated. And her own heart was filled with a deep sense of purpose, knowing that she was walking hand in hand with her Saviour.

Through her relationship with Jesus, Lily discovered that true joy doesn’t come from possessions, achievements, or even human relationships, it comes from knowing that we are fully loved by the One who gave His life for us.
