In the bustling seaside city of Milton Keynes, there lived a woman named Miriam. Miriam was a faithful believer who spoke openly about her love for God. But deep inside, her heart often felt weighed down by the challenges of life. She would spend hours in prayer, crying out to God for help, asking for healing, provision, and direction. While she trusted that God heard her prayers, she often felt stuck in a cycle of asking, waiting, and worrying.

One Sunday morning, Miriam went to her church in Singleton Drive, Grange Farm feeling particularly burdened. She had been praying for weeks about a financial struggle and had yet to see an answer. During the worship service, the congregation began singing a song based on Psalm 95:2:

“Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.”

As the words filled the room, Miriam felt a gentle nudge in her spirit. She realized that her prayers had been filled with so many requests, so many cries for help, that she had forgotten to simply praise God for who He was. She had spent so much time focusing on what she lacked that she had overlooked the countless blessings already in her life.

That evening, Miriam opened her Bible and read Psalm 95 in its entirety. She was struck by the call to worship:

“Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care.” Psalm 95:6-7

The words reminded her that God was not only her Saviour but also her Shepherd, who lovingly cared for her in every circumstance. She prayed that night with a new heart:

“Lord, I’ve been so focused on my needs that I’ve forgotten to simply worship You. You are good, You are faithful and You have already done so much for me. I want to give You more, more worship, more praise, more gratitude. Thank You for being my Shepherd, for guiding me, protecting me, and providing for me. I trust You completely. I have everything I need in You. You are enough for me.”

From that day forward, Miriam changed the way she approached her relationship with God. She still brought her needs to Him, but instead of dwelling on her requests, she began spending more time in worship, praise, and gratitude.

Each morning, she started her day with a song of praise, thanking God for His goodness and blessings. In her prayers, she would reflect on His faithfulness, recalling times when He had answered her cries and carried her through difficult seasons. And in her quiet moments, she simply knelt in worship, offering her heart to the Almighty Saviour who loved her unconditionally.

As Miriam shifted her focus from asking to worshiping, something beautiful happened. Her heart grew lighter, and her perspective changed. She began to see God’s hand in places she hadn’t noticed before a kind word from a friend, an unexpected opportunity at work, the peace that filled her during moments of uncertainty.

One day, Miriam was sharing her story with a friend who was going through a tough time. “I used to come to God with so many cries and requests,” she said. “But then I realized that when I focus on praising Him, my heart is filled with peace, even before my circumstances change. Worship reminds me of who He is, my Saviour, my Shepherd, my Provider. And when I give more of myself to Him in worship and gratitude, I feel closer to Him than ever before.”

Her friend nodded, inspired by Miriam’s words. That simple truth that worship and gratitude draw us nearer to God began to ripple through their community, encouraging others to approach God with hearts full of praise.

Years later, Miriam looked back on her journey with awe. She had faced many challenges, but her relationship with God had grown deeper and richer as she gave more of herself to Him in worship. She had learned that true joy didn’t come from having all her prayers answered, it came from trusting and glorifying the One who held her life in His hands.

And so, Miriam’s story reminds us of the invitation in Psalm 95:2:

“Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.”

May we, like Miriam, cry less and give more to our Almighty Saviour, more worship, more praise, more prayer, and more gratitude. For when we focus on His goodness and give Him our hearts, we find peace, joy, and the unshakable assurance that we are under the care of the Good Shepherd.

“Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care.” Psalm 95:6-7
