Kuuku was a self-made man. He had built a successful business from the ground up, earned the admiration of his peers, and enjoyed the comforts of wealth and influence. But Kuuku had one major belief: he didn’t need God. Growing up, he had seen too much hypocrisy among people who claimed to be religious, and he decided early on that he would rely only on himself. “Faith is for the weak,” he often thought. “I’ve achieved everything in my life without God.”
One evening, while flipping through an old family Bible he had inherited from his grandmother, Kuuku came across Psalm 53:1:
“The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.”
The words struck a nerve. Kuuku was offended at first, how could anyone call him foolish? He was successful, respected, and generous with his wealth. But as he sat with the verse, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing in his life. For all his success, there was a void he couldn’t fill, and deep down, he knew that his achievements hadn’t brought him the peace or purpose he craved.
That night, Kuuku began to reflect on his life. He realized that despite all his outward success, he still struggled with pride, selfishness, and a restless heart. The verse reminded him that no amount of wealth or status could replace the need for God. For the first time in years, Kuuku prayed: “God, I’ve been living as if I don’t need You, but I see now how empty that’s left me. Forgive me for my pride and for thinking I could do life without You. Please show me who You are and help me to live with the wisdom of trusting in You.”
As Kuuku began to seek God, he experienced a transformation. He started reading the Bible, praying daily, and attending church. He realized that true wisdom comes from acknowledging God and living in relationship with Him. Kuuku’s business and success were still part of his life, but they no longer defined him. Instead, he found his identity and purpose in God, and for the first time, he felt truly fulfilled.
Psalm 53:1 reminds us of the folly of denying God. No matter how successful or self-sufficient we may appear, life without God leaves us empty and restless. True wisdom begins with acknowledging God and living in relationship with Him. When we humble ourselves and turn to Him, we find the peace, purpose, and fulfillment that nothing in this world can provide.
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the wisdom of Your Word, which reminds us of our need for You. For the reader who has been trying to live life on their own terms, I pray that You soften their heart and show them the beauty of trusting in You. Help them to see that true fulfillment comes not from success or achievements, but from walking in relationship with You. Thank You for being patient with us, even when we turn away. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Let this story and prayer encourage you: If you’ve been living as if you don’t need God, take a moment to reflect on what truly brings peace and purpose to life. Success, possessions, and achievements may offer temporary satisfaction, but only God can fill the deepest longings of your heart. Don’t let pride or self-reliance keep you from experiencing the freedom and joy of trusting Him. The wisdom of acknowledging God leads to a life of true fulfillment. Trust Him today, He’s waiting for you.
