Kwaku was a man who prided himself on being in control. He planned every detail of his life, from his career to his relationships, and rarely moved forward without knowing exactly what to expect. But lately, God had been challenging him to step out in faith in ways that felt uncomfortable.
One evening, Kwaku received a call from a close friend, Claude, who had just started a ministry in a struggling neighbourhood. Claude was full of excitement as he described the vision God had given him to bring hope and healing to the community. “Kwaku, I could really use your help,” Claude said. “I know you have skills that could make a difference here.”
Kwaku was flattered but hesitant. He didn’t know much about the community Claude was serving, and the idea of stepping into something so uncertain made him uneasy. “I’ll think about it,” he said, though in his heart, he wasn’t convinced.
Later that night, Kwaku opened his Bible, asking God for clarity. He came across 2 Samuel 15:11:
“Two hundred men from Jerusalem had accompanied Absalom. They had been invited as guests and went quite innocently, knowing nothing about the matter.”
The verse described men who followed Absalom without understanding the bigger picture, that they were being led into a rebellion against King David, God’s anointed. Kwaku paused and reflected. These men had acted blindly, unaware of the consequences of their actions. Their lack of discernment had led them into a dangerous situation, far from God’s will. Kwaku realized that stepping out in faith didn’t mean following blindly, it meant seeking God’s direction and obeying Him.
Kwaku prayed: “Lord, thank You for showing me this verse. I don’t want to act without seeking Your will first. Help me to discern whether this is something You are calling me to do, and give me the wisdom to follow You, not just man’s plans.”
The next morning, Kwaku called Claude and asked to meet in person. Over coffee, Kwaku listened closely as Claude shared his plans and vision. Kwaku asked questions, prayed with Claude, and sought God’s guidance. After spending time in prayer and reflection, Kwaku felt a peace in his heart. He said to Claude, “I’ve prayed about this, and I believe God is asking me to help. Let’s do this together, with His guidance.”
As Kwaku began serving alongside Claude, he made it a priority to seek God in every step of the ministry. The work wasn’t always easy, but Kwaku saw how God blessed their efforts when they followed His lead. Kwaku’s faith grew deeper as he learned the difference between stepping out in blind following and stepping forward in faith with discernment.
2 Samuel 15:11 is a reminder of the danger of following blindly without seeking God’s direction. The men who followed Absalom did so without understanding the rebellion they were stepping into. In contrast, God calls us to step out in faith with wisdom and discernment, seeking His will every step of the way. Faith is not blind, it is trusting in the One who sees the full picture and relying on His guidance.
