Lisa sat at her desk, nervously tapping her pen against her notebook. Her coworker, Adwoa, had just asked her to cover for a mistake she had made on a project.
“It’s just a small thing,” Adwoa had said with a shrug. “If the boss asks, just say the report was late because of tech issues. No one will know.”
Lisa’s stomach churned. It wasn’t the first time Adwoa had bent the truth, but this time, she was asking Lisa to lie as well. Lisa didn’t want to seem difficult or uncooperative, but she also knew that lying didn’t sit right with her.
As she wrestled with what to do, a verse she had read earlier that morning came to mind:
“The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in people who are trustworthy. The prudent keep their knowledge to themselves, but a fool’s heart blurts out folly.” Proverbs 12:22-23

She realized that her decision wasn’t just about pleasing her boss or keeping the peace with Adwoa, it was about honouring God. If she chose to lie, even about something small, she would be stepping out of alignment with God’s values.
Lisa prayed silently at her desk: “Lord, help me to be honest and trustworthy, even when it’s hard. Give me the courage to do what’s right.”
Later that day, Lisa’s boss called her into his office to ask about the report. She took a deep breath and replied, “The delay wasn’t due to tech issues. There was a mistake in the process, but we’ve corrected it, and the report is ready now.”
Her boss nodded, appreciating her honesty. Lisa felt a weight lift off her shoulders. She had chosen integrity, and it felt good to know she had honoured God with her words.
As for Adwoa, the situation was a bit awkward at first, but Lisa used the second part of the verse to guide her response: “The prudent keep their knowledge to themselves, but a fool’s heart blurts out folly.”
Instead of lecturing Adwoa or gossiping about her mistake, Lisa chose her words carefully. She approached Adwoa privately and said, “I know we all make mistakes, but I think it’s important to own up to them. It builds trust with the team and shows integrity.”
Adwoa didn’t say much, but Lisa could tell her words made an impact.
