Akwasi slumped on the couch, scrolling through his phone. It was another Friday night, and he felt as though life was passing him by. His friends always seemed so happy, posting pictures of vacations, clubbing, promotions and exciting adventures. Meanwhile, Akwasi couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing in his own life.

He had a decent job, a few close friends, and hobbies he enjoyed, but none of it felt truly fulfilling. Deep down, he longed for something more, something real and lasting.

That weekend, Akwasi decided to attend church with his cousin, who had been inviting him for months. During the sermon, the lady pastor, LP Lisa read John 10:10:

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

The words stuck with Akwasi. Life to the full. Was that even possible?

As Akwasi reflected on the verse, he realized that he had been searching for fulfillment in all the wrong places, social media, material success and fleeting pleasures. These things promised happiness, but they often left him feeling empty and dissatisfied.

LP Lisa explained that the “thief” in John 10:10 represents anything that pulls us away from God’s purpose for our lives. The thief steals our joy, kills our hope, and destroys our sense of worth.

Akwasi thought about all the ways he had been allowing the “thief” to influence his life: comparing himself to others, chasing temporary pleasures, and neglecting his spiritual health.

He realized that he had been settling for a shallow version of life, while Jesus was offering him something far greater, true, abundant life.

That night, Akwasi prayed for the first time in a long time. “Jesus, I don’t want to keep chasing things that leave me empty. I want the life You’re offering, the full, abundant life. Show me how to follow You and experience the life You came to give.”

Over the next few weeks, Akwasi began making changes in his life.

  1. Spending Time with Jesus
Akwasi started reading the Bible each morning, focusing on the Gospels to learn more about who Jesus is. As he spent time in prayer and Scripture, he began to feel a deeper connection to God and a growing sense of peace.
  2. Letting Go of Comparisons
Akwasi decided to limit his time on social media. Instead of comparing his life to others, he focused on gratitude, writing down three things he was thankful for each day. This simple practice helped him see how blessed he truly was.
  3. Building Relationships
Akwasi joined the church weekday Bacenta meetings, where he found community and support. Sharing his faith journey with others helped him grow spiritually and reminded him that he wasn’t alone.
  4. Living with Purpose
Akwasi began asking God to show him how to use his gifts and talents to make a difference. He started volunteering at a local youth centre, mentoring kids who needed encouragement and guidance. Serving others brought him a sense of joy and fulfilment he had never experienced before.

Months later, Akwasi reflected on how much his life had changed. He no longer felt empty or aimless. Instead, he felt alive, truly alive.

Akwasi realised that the abundant life Jesus promised wasn’t about having more stuff or achieving worldly success. It was about living in relationship with God, finding joy in His presence, and walking in His purpose.

“The thief tried to steal my joy,” Akwasi thought, “but Jesus gave me something the thief could never take away, life to the full.”

John 10:10 reminds us that Jesus came to give us more than just existence. He came to give us abundant life.

The thief (Satan, sin, or anything that pulls us away from God) tries to steal our joy, kill our hope, and destroy our purpose. But Jesus offers us a life filled with peace, joy, and purpose, a life centred on Him.

To experience this abundant life, we must let go of the things that leave us empty and embrace the fullness of life that only Jesus can provide.

May you reject the lies of the thief and embrace the abundant life Jesus offers. May you find joy, peace, and purpose as you walk with Him and experience His presence in every area of your life.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” —John 10:10

Heavenly Father, thank You for coming to give me life to the full. Help me to let go of the things that steal my joy and to trust in Your plan for my life. Teach me to walk in Your purpose and to experience the peace and fulfilment that only You can provide. In Jesus Name, Amen.

May you experience the fullness of life that Jesus came to give, walking in His joy, purpose, and love!
