In a vibrant suburban neighbourhood of Stacey Bushes, there lived a young woman named Lisa M. Lisa was a high school teacher in her late 20s, passionate about inspiring her students to think critically and live purposefully. She was known for her patience and kindness, but she often struggled with self-doubt, especially when it came to making big decisions.

Lisa’s best friend, Akua was her polar opposite, bold, confident, and always ready to take risks. Akua had recently started a successful online business and often encouraged Lisa to quit her teaching job and pursue her dream of writing a book. “You’re wasting your potential,” Akua would say. “You need to take a leap of faith!”

But Lisa wasn’t so sure. She loved teaching and didn’t want to make a reckless decision. One evening, as she sat at her desk grading papers, she opened her Bible and read Proverbs 3:21-22: “My son, let them not depart from your eyes, keep sound wisdom and discretion; so they will be life to your soul and grace to your neck.” The words resonated deeply with her. She realized that she didn’t have to choose between her passion for teaching and her dream of writing, she could pursue both with wisdom and discretion.

The next day, Lisa shared her thoughts with Akua. “I think I’ve been looking at this all wrong,” she said. “Instead of quitting my job, I can write in my spare time and see where it leads. That way, I’m not risking everything all at once.”

Akua raised an eyebrow. “That sounds… cautious. But okay, I’ll support you.”

Lisa began to carve out time each evening to work on her book. She also sought advice from a retired teacher at her school, Mr. White, who had written several educational books. He became her mentor, guiding her through the process and encouraging her to stay patient and disciplined.

Months later, Lisa completed her manuscript, a collection of short stories inspired by her students. She submitted it to a few publishers and continued teaching, trusting that God would open the right doors in His timing.

One afternoon, as Lisa was preparing for her next class, she received an email from a publisher. They wanted to publish her book! Overwhelmed with joy, she shared the news with Akua and Mr. White. “I can’t believe it,” she said. “I thought I had to choose between teaching and writing, but God made a way for both.”

Akua smiled. “Okay, I’ll admit it, your ‘cautious’ approach worked. You’ve got the best of both worlds.”

Lisa’s book became a success, and she continued to teach, using her writing to inspire even more students. She often reflected on Proverbs 3:21-22, reminding herself that wisdom and discretion had brought life to her soul and grace to her journey.

Wisdom and discretion are life-giving principles that guide us in making decisions with patience and discernment. By holding tightly to them, we can pursue our dreams without losing sight of what truly matters

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of wisdom and discretion. Help us to hold tightly to these principles, trusting that they bring life to our souls and grace to our journeys. Teach us to make decisions with patience and discernment, and guide us in pursuing our dreams without losing sight of what truly matters. May our lives reflect Your wisdom and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
