In a bustling city filled with towering buildings and busy streets, there lived a successful businessman named Mickey. Mickey had worked hard to build his empire—a chain of luxury hotels that spanned the country. He had wealth, influence, and everything the world considered success. Yet, despite his achievements, Mickey felt an emptiness he couldn’t shake. He was so focused on maintaining his status and outdoing his competitors that he rarely paused to appreciate what he had. His life was full, but his heart was empty.
One evening, after a long day of meetings, Mickey received a call from his childhood friend, Lisa. Lisa was a pastor who ran a small community center in their hometown. “Mickey,” Lisa said, “we’re hosting a thanksgiving dinner for the homeless and struggling families in the community. I was wondering if you’d like to come and help out.”
Mickey hesitated. He hadn’t been home in years, and the idea of serving meals to strangers felt beneath him. But something in Lisa’s voice stirred a faint memory of simpler times, when joy wasn’t tied to wealth or status. Reluctantly, he agreed.
When Mickey arrived at the community center, he was struck by the warmth and laughter filling the room. People from all walks of life—some in tattered clothes, others with weary faces—sat together, sharing stories and smiles. Lisa handed Mickey a serving spoon and said, “Just serve with joy, brother. That’s all that matters.”
As Mickey began serving food, something shifted in his heart. He watched as a young boy’s face lit up at the sight of a warm meal. He listened as an elderly woman thanked him with tears in her eyes. For the first time in years, Mickey felt a sense of purpose that his wealth had never given him. He realized that his abundance wasn’t just for him—it was meant to be shared.
That night, as Mickey drove back to the city, he thought about Deuteronomy 28:47, a verse LP Lisa had shared with him earlier: “Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, you shall serve your enemies…” Mickey had been serving his own ambitions, but now he understood the joy of serving God and others.
From that day forward, Mickey began to use his resources to bless others. He funded community programs, provided jobs for those in need, and even started a foundation to help struggling families. His life, once marked by emptiness, was now filled with joy and purpose. He learned that true abundance isn’t measured by what you have but by how you use it to serve God and others.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the abundance of blessings You have poured into my life. Forgive me for the times I’ve taken them for granted or used them selfishly. Teach me to serve You with joy and gladness of heart, celebrating all that You have done for me. Help me to see the needs around me and to use what I have to bless others. May my life be a reflection of Your love and generosity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
True joy and fulfillment come when we serve God and others with a grateful heart. Our blessings are not just for us—they are meant to be shared, bringing light and hope to those around us.
