In a small village nestled in the hills, there lived a man named Chris. Life had not been easy for Chris, he had faced loss, disappointment, and the daily struggle of providing for his family. Though he worked hard and did his best, a heaviness had settled over him, and he often felt drained of energy and hope.

One day, Chris attended a gathering at the Stacey Bushes Meeting Place, Briar Hill. There, the lady pastor read from Nehemiah 8:10:

“Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

The words struck Chris deeply. He realised that he had been carrying his burdens alone, forgetting that God’s joy could strengthen him. That evening, as the stars lit up the night sky, Chris knelt in prayer and said, “Lord, I need Your joy. Lift my spirit and fill my heart with Your strength and purpose.”

The next morning, Chris decided to start his day differently. Instead of focusing on his struggles, he thanked God for the little blessings in his life, the warmth of the sun, the laughter of his children, and the promise of a new day.

As he worked in the fields, he began to sing a hymn his mother used to sing:

“This is the day that the Lord has made;
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24

With every note, Chris felt his heart grow lighter. Though his circumstances hadn’t changed, he felt a renewed sense of strength and hope. He began to realise that the joy of the Lord wasn’t dependent on his situation, it came from the deep assurance that God was with him, providing all he needed for each day.

As time went on, Chris noticed something incredible. The more he leaned on God’s joy, the more his outlook changed. He began to approach each day with gratitude and purpose, finding joy in the simple things, helping a neighbour, sharing a meal with his family, and thanking God for His faithfulness.

One evening, as Chris sat by the fire with his children, he smiled and said, “Do you know what I’ve learned? True strength doesn’t come from what we have or what we accomplish. It comes from the joy of knowing that God is with us, guiding us, and giving us purpose.”

His children nodded, and his youngest daughter whispered, “Papa, you’re the happiest person I know.”

Chris chuckled and replied, “That’s because the joy of the Lord is my strength.”

May the joy of the Lord be your strength, lifting your spirit and filling your days with purpose. May you find joy not in your circumstances, but in the unchanging love and faithfulness of God.

“You make known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand.” Psalm 16:11

Whatever challenges you face, may God’s joy sustain you, energise you, and remind you that He is always with you, providing strength for every step of your journey.

Heavenly Father, I lift up the reader to you today, thank You for the promise that Your joy is their strength. Fill their heart with Your joy, even in the midst of challenges. Lift their spirit and renew their purpose each day. Help them to focus on Your presence and to trust in Your faithfulness. May Your joy guide them, strengthen them and overflow into the lives of others. In Jesus Name, Amen.
