In a vibrant church community, there was a growing sense of competition among the members. Each person wanted to showcase their spiritual gifts, some were gifted speakers, others talented musicians, and still others skilled organisers. But instead of unity, there was division. People compared their gifts and some even felt their contributions were overlooked.

Lisa M, a young woman with a heart for serving, noticed the tension. She had the gift of hospitality and often opened her home to those in need, but she felt her gift was less valued compared to others. “What’s the point of my gift if no one appreciates it?” she wondered.

One Sunday, the lady pastor spoke about 1 Corinthians 12:31: “But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.”  She explained that while spiritual gifts are important, they are meaningless without love.

“The most excellent way,” the lady pastor said, “is the way of love. Love is the foundation of all we do. Without it, our gifts are just noise.”

Lisa M felt a stirring in her heart. She realised that she had been seeking recognition for her gift rather than using it to love others.

At first, the gatherings were small, but Lisa M didn’t mind. She poured her heart into each one, making sure everyone felt welcome.

Word of Lisa’s gatherings spread, and soon, more people began to attend. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, encouragement, and genuine connection. People started to see Lisa’s gift of hospitality not as a lesser gift but as a powerful expression of love

One evening, a young man named Kevin approached Lisa. “Thank you for these gatherings,” he said. “I’ve been struggling with loneliness, but coming here has reminded me that I’m not alone. Your love has made all the difference.”

Lisa smiled, her heart full. “It’s not about me,” she said. “It’s about showing God’s love to others.”

Lisa’s gatherings inspired others to use their gifts in love. The musicians began playing not for applause but to uplift others. The speakers shared messages of hope and encouragement. The organisers worked behind the scenes to ensure everyone felt included.

The church became a place of unity and love, where every gift was valued and every person felt seen.

One evening, as Lisa prepared for another gathering, she opened her Bible to 1 Corinthians 12:31 and read aloud: “But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.”

“Thank You, Lord,”  she whispered. “You’ve shown me that the most excellent way is the way of love.”

Spiritual gifts are important, but they are meaningless without love. When we use our gifts to serve others and reflect God’s love, we create unity and bring glory to Him. As 1 Corinthians 12:31 reminds us, the most excellent way is the way of love.

Heavenly Father, I lift up the reader to You today, asking for a heart that pursues love above all else. Teach them to use their gifts to serve others and reflect Your love. Help them to value every gift in the body of Christ and to work in unity with others. Thank You for showing them that the most excellent way is the way of love. In Jesus Name, Amen.
