In a small, forgotten town surrounded by dense forests, there lived a young man named Eben. Life had not been kind to him. He had grown up in a broken home, and the scars of his past left him feeling unworthy and alone. Eben struggled with addiction, and the weight of his mistakes seemed too heavy to bear. He often wandered the streets at night, searching for something, anything to fill the void in his heart.
One cold winter evening, as snow blanketed the town, Eben stumbled into a church in Singleton Drive, Milton Keynes just outside the forest. The doors were open and the warm glow of candlelight spilled onto the snowy steps. Inside, a young lady pastor named LP Lisa was preparing for a service. She noticed Eben’s weary expression and invited him to sit by the heater to keep warm.
“You look like you’ve been carrying a heavy burden,” LP Lisa said gently. Eben hesitated but eventually shared his story, the pain, the mistakes and the overwhelming sense of hopelessness. LP Lisa listened with compassion, then reached for a worn Bible on the table. “Eben,” she said, “there’s a verse I want to share with you. It’s from John 3:16: ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.’ God’s love for you is so great that He gave everything to bring you hope and life. No matter how lost or broken you feel, His love is unchanging and eternal.
Eben felt a flicker of something he hadn’t felt in years, hope. LP’s words echoed in his heart and for the first time, he began to believe that he was worthy of love. That night, Eben stayed in the church, praying and reflecting on the message of John 3:16. He decided to take a step of faith and seek help for his addiction.
The road to recovery wasn’t easy. There were moments when Eben felt like giving up, but he held onto the truth of God’s love. With the support of LP Lisa and a local recovery group, Eben began to rebuild his life. He found a job, reconnected with his family and even became a committed and serious shepherd at the church to help others who were struggling.
Years later, Eben stood at the front of the church, sharing his testimony with a group of people who had come seeking hope. I was lost, he said, but God’s love found me. He showed me that no matter how broken we are, His love is enough to heal us and give us a new beginning.
Christ’s love is the greatest gift we could ever receive. It has the power to transform even the darkest moments of our lives into stories of hope, redemption, and light. As John 3:16 reminds us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Heavenly Father I lift up the reader to YOU today, asking that they may continually know and experience the immeasurable depth, height, and breadth of Christ’s love that surpasses knowledge (Ephesians 3:17–19); let the truth of Your great sacrifice demonstrate forever Your love for them (Romans 5:8) and fill their heart with unshakable hope through the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13). May Your grace be sufficient for them in every season and Your strength made perfect in their weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9), ordering their steps by Your Word and delighting their path (Psalm 37:23). Let the assurance that nothing can separate them from Your everlasting love (Romans 8:38–39) anchor their soul as a steadfast and secure hope (Hebrews 6:19), keeping them rooted, confident, and at peace in You, in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
