Baaba was a young woman who had drifted far from the faith she grew up with. As a child, Sundays had been her favourite day of the week. She loved going to church with her family, hearing the choir sing and feeling the warmth of the congregation’s love. But as she grew older, life got in the way. College, work, and disappointments had slowly pulled her away from her faith. Now in her thirties, Baaba couldn’t remember the last time she had stepped into a church.
Her life felt hollow. She had a good job, a comfortable home and plenty of friends, but something was missing. Deep down, Baaba felt a yearning she couldn’t quite explain. It was as if her soul was restless, searching for something she couldn’t name.
One Saturday afternoon, while cleaning out old boxes in her attic, Baaba found a photo album filled with pictures from her childhood. There she was, a little girl in her Sunday best, holding her father’s hand as they walked into their local church down the street. She smiled as she remembered the joy she used to feel on those mornings walking with her dad to church. Suddenly, a verse she had learned as a child came back to her: Psalm 122:1 “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord!’”
The words stirred something deep within her. Baaba realized that she hadn’t felt that kind of gladness in years. She missed the sense of fellowship, the peace of worship and the closeness to God that she used to feel. For the first time in a long time, she felt a nudge, a gentle whisper in her heart urging her to return to the house of the Lord.
The next morning, Baaba made a decision. She woke up early, put on a simple dress, and drove to a nearby church, 24 Sheraton Drive, MK8 0PZ on her street she had passed countless times but never entered. Nervous yet hopeful, she stepped inside, unsure of what to expect.
The moment she walked through the doors, she was greeted by warm smiles and friendly handshakes. The music began and as the congregation sang praises to God, Baaba felt her heart begin to soften. Tears welled up in her eyes as she realized how much she had missed being in God’s presence with His people. It wasn’t just the building, it was the unity, the love and the shared faith that made it holy.
The lady pastor’s sermon that day spoke directly to her heart. She talked about how God welcomes us back with open arms, no matter how far we’ve wandered. Baaba felt as though God Himself was speaking to her, reminding her that she was never too far gone to return to Him.
By the end of the service, Baaba felt something she hadn’t felt in years: joy. True, unshakable joy. It wasn’t just happiness, it was a deep sense of peace and belonging. She understood what the psalmist meant in Psalm 122:1. There was gladness in going to the house of the Lord, not because it was a duty, but because it was a place where hearts were restored and lives were renewed.
From that day forward, Baaba made church a priority in her life. It wasn’t about checking a box or fulfilling an obligation; it was about experiencing the joy of worship and growing closer to God. She found a community that supported her, prayed with her, and walked alongside her in faith. Most importantly, she rediscovered the love of her Heavenly Father, who had never stopped calling her home.
Heavenly Father, I pray for my reader who may be feeling distant from You. Just as You stirred Baaba’s heart with Psalm 122:1, stir their heart today. Give them the courage to return to Your house, where they can find joy, peace, and community. Remind them that Your arms are always open, ready to receive them with love and grace. May they feel the gladness that comes from worshiping You and being in Your presence. Restore their joy and renew their spirit, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
