Kuukuwa stood at the edge of her garden, staring at the stubborn patch of dry soil in the corner. At the start of the year, she had planted a few seeds there, dreaming of a vibrant, flourishing garden. But as the months passed, the plants in that patch barely grew.
She had watered them and tried to nourish the soil, but no matter what she did, the growth was slow and unimpressive. In contrast, the rest of her garden was lush and thriving, filled with colorful blooms and strong, healthy trees.
Looking at the struggling plants, Kuukuwa sighed. “Why isn’t this part of the garden flourishing?” she wondered.
Later that day, Kuukuwa sat on her porch with her Bible. She opened to the Psalms, seeking encouragement, and her eyes landed on Psalm 92:12-13:
“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God.”
The words struck her. She began to picture the palm tree, tall and resilient, able to withstand storms and thrive even in harsh conditions. Then she thought of the cedar of Lebanon, massive and deeply rooted, known for its strength and durability.
Kuukuwa realized that the flourishing described in the psalm wasn’t about outward beauty or quick results—it was about deep, steady growth rooted in God.
As Kuukuwa reflected on the verse, she thought about her own life. She had been frustrated lately, feeling like her spiritual growth was stagnant, just like the dry patch in her garden. She went to church, prayed occasionally, and tried to live a good life, but she didn’t feel like she was truly flourishing.
She asked herself, Am I really rooted in God, or am I just checking off the boxes of faith without going deeper?
Kuukuwa prayed softly, “Lord, I want to flourish like the palm tree and grow strong like the cedar. Show me how to be rooted in You so that I can thrive, not just survive.”
Over the next few weeks, Kuukuwa made some intentional changes in her spiritual life.

Kuukuwa committed to attending a weekly Bacenta meetings at her church. She found that discussing Scripture and studying the Word with others helped her grow in understanding and encouraged her to apply it in practical ways. - Removing Spiritual Weeds
Just as weeds can choke plants in a garden, Kuukuwa realized there were “weeds” in her life, distractions, unhealthy habits, and negative influences that were stunting her growth. She began cutting back on things like excessive social media scrolling and gossiping with coworkers, replacing them with prayer, worship, and acts of kindness. - Trusting the Process
Kuukuwa reminded herself that flourishing takes time. Just as trees don’t grow tall overnight, her spiritual growth would require patience and consistency. She trusted that as long as she stayed rooted in God, He would help her grow in His time.
Months later, Kuukuwa stood in her garden again. To her amazement, the dry patch that had once struggled was now vibrant and full of life. The seeds she had planted earlier in the year had finally taken root and begun to flourish.
She smiled, realizing the garden was a reflection of her own life. By rooting herself in God, she had begun to experience the flourishing described in Psalm 92. Her faith felt stronger, her joy deeper, and her life more purposeful.
Kuukuwa whispered a prayer of gratitude: “Thank You, Lord, for planting me in Your house and helping me flourish in Your courts. May my life bring You glory.”
